So beautiful and sad. It touched me to tears. And there is such peace in this.

I have always loved this Epilogue. It pratically wrote itself! I wanted that reunion between father and son and this poured off my fingertips and out onto the keyboard. So happy it touched you! Thank you for finishing this story! It really means a lot to me that you did!

How much weighs on Aragorn's shoulders. At an age when young people struggle and seek their identity, he has to leave everything behind, all that was familiar and he loved and new well, to find. And accept a new reality. And he masters it all sovereignly.
I'm so glad he found a new family, and a new home. And I love how in his heart Imladris and his family there will always be there. All this makes him even more special for the richness he he carries in his being.

I'm guessing that this review was for Chapter Nineteen. After being away from this story for over ten years I decided that this portion of the story needed to be told.

Again I am fascinated at what 20 year old Aragorn would have thought about and handled his transition from youngest son of Elrond to the Heir of Isildur. How would his people view him? How did he view himself? What would his re-definition of himself cost him emotionally?

But he does find a new home among the Dunedain, acceptance and love.

I have another half-finished chapter about Aragorn coming back to see Gilraen, back with her people, one last time before she dies. on this site unpublished. I would like to finish it soon. But I have three stories on-the-go already so it will have to wait!

Be well!

This story is so nicely crafted. The characters shaped out wonderfully.

What joy to see the reunion of Aragorn with his Uncle. There has been much pain and longing for so long. After the waiting the longing and feeling of loss and all Erithain endured, finally they are together without secrets.

I love how you write Aragorn throughout the story. There is greatness and love in him, so noble. He is so much like his father, and his mother too, his family, you showed a great heritage. The rangers, how you write them, you do them honour. A great people. They have endured so much, they lead a hard life. And still they stay strong and fight and hope, so very admirable.

I love how you show also Aragorn's/ Estel's elven side how is of both worlds.

This story is a wonderful tribute to Aragorn! And so very deserved.

Sorry for the late response. I am so happy that you have continued with this story. It is close to my heart. I took great joy in reuniting Erithain and Aragorn.

Thank you for writing this. My love for Aragorn and my complete fascination with the Dunedain is what drove this story to be written so I am really happy that love for their nobility (both Aragorn and the Dunedain) came through strong in the story! They had to be a great and noble people to have survived as they did.

hope you are well!!

Dear Mirkwoodmaiden
Again such an important chapter.
First the scene with the sword was deeply moving and meaningful. The faith Elrond has in Aragorn, how he is supporting him, steady and calm is so important for Aragorn and the destiny he has to fulfill. So much is expected of him, still so young, but his foster father sees the great man he is growing to be.

And then his meeting with Arwen; you described it so well, and the feeling, the love that grows there...
So difficult for Aragorn to know that what his heart desires is bringing grief to the people he most loves. And yet we know he will carry it all, through all the difficulties, he will succeed but there will be a cost.
You describe the situation so well, and their emotions are palpable, I feel for them all. And you make me admire this man even more for his strength, his perseverance and the respect he shows for all the loved people involved and his destiny. He knows his responsibility and he will carry it to the end, and yet he would not give up or deny his heart.
So extremely well done!
I hope you are doing well.

Hello! Sorry for the delay in response. I am well but it has been a long week! So happy to see your review! The scene with the sword harkens back to a short story on here called "Shards of Memory". That scene in the "Fellowship" when Aragorn encounters the sword has always stuck with me and produced some nice reflection of it in my fanfic.

Also the relationship between Aragorn and Elrond has always fascinated me. It is such a complex one made even more difficult when Aragorn falls in love with Arwen. Two people among the ones Elrond loves most in this world. It always break my heart when I think of all Elrond has sacrificed for Middle Earth.

Yes, everything that Aragorn has to endure...and he does it so well. Obviously I am enthralled and this story and the other short stories are the result!

Hope you are well and safe as well.

Dear Mirkwoodmaiden
This was a revelation of such importance. And beautifully and deftly written. The emotions of all concerned, I could feel them, I was excited, awed and worried. Such a great and emotional Moment for Aragorn, he will need time digest it. So much lies on him.
I am also glad for Gilraen, that she has to hide the truth and her memories and love for Arathorn no longer. Elrond did not lose his Estel, although after this revelation he has grown even more in so short a time.
The conversation with the twins about Aragorn's father, his death and his love for the boy made me cry.
I hope you are well. Take care 🌸

I can't tell you how much it means that you are reading this story. It was my first multi-chaptered story and it really does hold a very special place in my heart. I have always been fascinated by Aragorn as a child growing up in Imladris. I have always been fascinated by the father-son relationship between he and Elrond. In the LOTR trilogy if you didn't know already you would never guess that Aragorn is Elrond's foster son. Elrond is the only father Aragorn has ever known. I know to emphasis that in the films would have been difficult but it would have been really nice to see.

It was good that Elladan and Elrohir were there when Arathorn died so they could tell Aragorn first hand what Arathorn had said.

So glad you are reading this and enjoying it

How you are well and safe!

*I meant Thranduil BOWING to Estel. not bending, of course.

NurayyReviewed Chapter: 15 on 6/17/2021
Dear Mirkwoodmaiden, I hope you are well. This was a wonderful chapter. A new friendship building, tightening so strongly in this short time. Short and intense it was. The image of the young elf and young man together was such a delight. They will have a long way together and I love this friendship so. And seeing their bonding from beginning is very special.
I loved Thranduil, impressive as he is, he is also vulnerable when it concerns the ones he most loves, and you showed it so well; his tender heart under the crust. Even it went to my heart to see how insecure he is under what people usually see of him, how he thinks himself unworthy of his loving and wonderful wife. You are showing such nice contrasts here.
And I loved to see Lasgalen in his memories, and what great personality she has. Here we really get to know her. It makes me feel so sorry for the loss he/they suffered.
Also the memories of the twins of their mother was painful. So touching. And they have this heartbreak in common.
I was relieved with them all when they found Estel and Legolas.
Loved Thranduil bending to Estel, delighted about his name. So beautiful. The great Elvenking bowing before a human boy in deep gratitude.
And how proud the twins are of their little foster-brother. I was feeling such joy for Estel.

Hello! I am well. I have just finished my next chapter for "Reunion in Mirkwood!" After my beta edits it should be up this week.

So happy that you liked the chapter. These are the chapters I am referring to those chapters in "Reunion" I wrote the first 18 chapters of this story in fifteen years ago *slaps forehead...has it really been that long* long before "Hobbit: Unexpected Journey" was even cast and it is one of the reason I love Lee Pace's Thranduil. His portrayal is as I imagined Thranduil would be and hopefully have written him as. So much torment below the cool, controlled surface. So much pain and memory.

Thranduil bowing to Estel. This is the reason for the affection he has for Aragorn in the first chapters of "Reunion". Most of my stories tend to be written with the same timeline. All so they can refer back to other stories within the world of Tolkien that I have written.

So happy you are enjoying this, it means a lot to me!

Hope you are well!

I loved to see what has grown between Estel and Erithain. How much respect and affection...and love. Estel might not know consciously, but he feels the bond. That was very touching. I love those emotional parts, and you seem to like writing them a lot :)
Oh no, Estel got caught! Do that's where he meets Legolas, so glad to see him. And I think Estel really needs him... Although y what you hint to it is not the first time for Legolas to be at the mercy of orcs, and the previous experience(s) must have been dreadful.
But Thranduil is on his way, and he is in rage, and the twins are trying to find Estel too. I hope help will reach soon.

Author Reply: Nurayy!!

Thanks for writing! I did really enjoy bringing Estel and Erithain together and allowing their relationship. Like I said we must consider every thing Erithain has given up almost the whole life that he had.

And yes this is the chapter where a band is forged between Legolas and Aragon that I speak of in "Reunion." They will grow from this experience.

Thranduil in full wroth is a quite a scene.

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense I was writing late at night.

Stay Safe

Mirkwoodmaiden,
I hope you are fine!
What a chapter! It is so understandable how Elrond feels to let Estel go on his first journey and into possible danger on the way. He feels as a loving, worried father feels to let his son go, to let him grow. And it speaks of love that he will let him go all the same. And Gilraen too, how high a price she pays. But Estel is ready, and it is time and they know it. I love the sword-giving ceremony. And all his loved ones were there and so proud of him. I absolutely loved the inscription in sindarin. How meaningful! It gave me shivers.
I was hoping he would meet with Erithain when they travelled north. And it really happened. I'm so glad! But it is really hard for the man to not be allowed to tell him who he is and how much he missed the boy. I can only guess what intense emotions Erithain is going through. I hope a great friendship will grow between them and that one day he will be able to tell him.
Have a great weekend!

So happy that you are forging ahead in this story! It is hard for Elrond to see his young charge growing up. Not only does he raise to be the Heir of Isildur but also he loves him as his own son. Which is makes everything much harder, Elrond knows he must.

I labored hard and actually constructed the Sindarin inscription on Estel's blade myself! I thought about how Aragorn will eventually wield Anduril and if he should have another sword of special meaning and I decided that he did indeed a sword of his own.

"Elladan, noticing the boy’s discomfiture, immediately introduced Erithain. “Estel, this is Erithain he is captain of the band of Rangers who came to our aid and has been a friend of mine for many a year.” "

I don't know if you caught this but I will mention it. Elladan introducing Erithain as his friend mirrors when Erithain is introducing Elladan and Elrohir to a two-year old Aragorn.

Thanks again for reading!

Hope you are well!

SIDENOTE: "Estel apprehensively lifted the spoonful of broth to his mouth under the watchful eye of both twins. An indescribable taste spread across his tongue and he had to quell his first instinct to spit it out, only because his beloved, but obviously culinarily challenged, oldest brother was looking on, expectant. “Mmmm!” he managed to voice without opening his mouth and swallowed the vile concoction down in a sacrificing show of filial love." Do you recognise this description? Think Two Towers extended edition when Éowyn is giving Aragorn that dreaded stew. I couldn't help but include this little scene. Poor Aragorn! Destined to eat disgusting food as not to give offense! :-)
