Drabbles  by Lindelea 217 Review(s)

Oh, what a great POV to write from. And what a moment for everyone experiencing that special day.

Author Reply: Thank you! I was thinking of the greengrocer's wife all week, while working on the puppy story, so this snippet just came out of (apparent) nowhere while I was contemplating the greengrocer's memories of the Siege and the battle before the Black Gate.

Definitely this would make Peregrin the First laugh! Delightful reminder of how Pippin came to his honors when still merely a tween!

Author Reply: Thank you, that was exactly what I was aiming for!

A worthy youth indeed, and a courageous one. I like him very much.

Author Reply: He reminds me of somebody... :)

Oh, but trust Elanor to put Ferdibrand at ease! Lovely!

Author Reply: Ah, yes, sensible (and sensitive) lass that she is.

Aww...this one is so sweet! I love Elanor's large heart!

Author Reply: Thank you, dear! I don't know why, but there seem to be several drabbles (or doubles, or flfs) with the same title clomping around in the back of my brain. Perhaps I should break it out into a separate series...

Working on the next chapter of The Farmer's Son but I keep getting interrupted. Drabbles are so much easier to finish!

Oh my, that gave me chills. What a wonderful, unlooked-for moment.

Author Reply: Thank you! It just hit me as I re-read that passage, and I had an urge to try and craft a drabble out of that scene. Difficult to squeeze so much emotion into so few words, but I'm glad it worked.

Author Reply: Oops, it was too long ago -- I thought it was in the reading, but it was actually in the listening to the BBC drama that the scene came to life. Funny, the tricks memory plays!

Oh, what marvelous imagery--stark and evocative; the terror followed by the comfort!

Author Reply: Thank you!

We were listening to the BBC LOTR and this scene just jumped out at me. I wondered about those slaves, many of them men of Gondor, and how they'd been captured, and how long they'd spent chained to oars, and what happened after...

Ah, what a shock that must have been, for the captives indeed to find themselves at last free once more, ready to row not due to fear of the whip but to fight the very ones who sparked their former captors to take them as slaves!

Author Reply: Exactly! And how amazing it must have been for them to come home, after being lost, and considered lost.

Stumbled upon this today and really enjoyed it. I do so admire well done drabbles. This is lovely. I could see this in my mind as I read it and the sense of foreboding in it was very well done. It has a very nice feel to it if that makes sense.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I have missed fanfic these past months... sure wish that RL would allow more time for reading *and* writing. (As it is, I have almost no time unless I stay up after everyone else is in bed, and then I'm a wreck in the morning. But tomorrow's a holiday, so at least I can sleep in.)

It makes perfect sense, by the way. Often the "feel" of a story stays with me, way longer than the actual words.

Oh, but a most proper of titles, double meaning and all! Very apropos, I know. And Frodo must at times have dreaded these migrations, knowing they aggravated Bilbo's wanderlust so.

Author Reply: Very belated reply, but just wanted you to know how I appreciate your thoughtful response. My dad suffered greatly from wanderlust, though it was always the geese in spring and autumn that set him off.
