One Who Sticks Closer than a Brother  by Lindelea 186 Review(s)

At last Pip is doing right by his escort for once! And I could see the girl and her sons and the small halfling as easily as the books at my bedside. Very very well told.

Author Reply: Belated thank you for stopping by and leaving a good word! I missed this review, when it was posted, and just saw it now.

Thanks so much!

My feelings are encompassed in these two lines:
Everybody lives! Just this once, everybody lives!
All sad things have come untrue!

Now, that is a good thing, that Burdock is actually one of the King's Men. Excellent means of testing the young man!

Author Reply: They did their best to give him enough rope to hang himself...

I'm breathless! So right and fitting for Pippin to honor Tolly and publicly make things right. True healing can now begin. I could see it all in my mind's eye. The image of all those Tooks cheering for their Thain was marvelous. To the Thain, indeed!

Oh, how I've missed reading these stories. So glad to be back, at least for a moment.

Author Reply: So glad you're back! Sounds like you're having a busy time of it.

We have just moved house and home, and have spent the last two weeks first packing and then unpacking boxes. There are more boxes to unpack, but we are making progress. (Perhaps we ought to have set up the computer last of all, to make the progress move faster...)

Thank you so much for the encouraging words!

Ah, indeed, to the Thain! The Thain and THE Took, and best of the best, slayer of trolls and companion to the Ringbearer! And may Tolly ever be blest for his good nature and integrity! The Master would approve, I think.

Good enough on the sale. Mazeltov! Now, let me know the address once you know. Love to the hubby, the girls, and the beasts. Panda and Brendi send a dozen or so tail wags each, and a few kisses for good measure.

Author Reply: It is always a pleasure to sneak a reference to Frodo in, especially one that honours his memory, after he has sailed. And yes, to pack a banquet hall (a *Hobbit* banquet hall at that, yes, that really would be something) full of celebrating hobbits and then set them up to cheer the Thain... well, a satisfactory conclusion to a story set in the Tookland doesn't get much better than that. ;)

Little Panda sends wags and puppy kisses back. She has reached 55 lbs at the age of six months (after being 44 at 4 months, which was possibly enough to hold down a hobbit knight recovering from being half-crushed by a troll) -- I wonder if there's some sort of chart that can tell me what her ultimate weight may be?

Will let you know as soon as we do!

Great chapter!

You write these kinds of scenes so well. I could see the whole thing clearly in my mind's eye.

Looks like the loose ends are nearly all tied up on this one. As usual, another fantastic tale.

Author Reply: Thank you!

This is the fun part of an angsty story -- tying up the loose ends.

Not many more, as you've perceived. Just a couple of things to deal with, and then this one will be a wrap.

Ah Farry. I could so see that scene.

‘Remember? If Mum feels a chill, you must...’

‘Put on a jacket,’ Faramir said with a sigh.

Delightful story, Lin. Happy Mothers Day

Author Reply: Thank you! Happy Mothers Day to you as well.

There was something about this chapter that just felt so right. I'm not sure what it was but it had a comforting, homey feeling to it. Maybe it's that everyone is where they belong and things are finally righting themselves.

I do wonder why Pippin wants to see Rusty. There's probably a hint I missed somewhere.

That last little bit between Pippin and Farry was great. Farry is the true only child. I know that exchange, I've been a part of similar ones but as the child and as the parent. :)

Glad to see an update to this. Looking forward to more, and to other updates as well. :)

Author Reply: If you got the hint, it would be an incredibly subtle one. You might see it in hindsight, but then, I'm not sure I would, either, if I didn't already know what discussion is about to take place.

I do love it when things are coming together, and all the bad times are past, and the celebration's about to start...

Sometimes being a child is a pain when one must follow one's elders' leads in so much, whether or not it is needful or desired.

Author Reply: It would probably be tiresome for Diamond as well, if she were not fully confident that Pippin will fill her in later, when "little ears" are not about, on whatever the secretive "matter of business" might be.

A wonderful way to return home. Makes me think of what they say at the end of fairy tales...'And they lived happily ever after.' Not true to life but wonderful for a day. Glad the Tooks could throw '...all propriety...out the windows!'

Author Reply: LOL -- I do love a happy ending. Sometimes I can write "bittersweet" but I just can't see any point in writing a story and giving it an unsatisfying conclusion, though there are others who can do that very well.

Just a few more loose ends to tie up, and this one's done, and hopefully happy endings all round...
